Think about a crazy, fun, amazing, interactive fun party during school hours, and you are the main DJ!
These events are a blast, but they have some structure that you need to know about.
The team at step it up will have a copy of the 'Volunteer handouts' that you will hand to volunteers 5 minutes before show time.
Day of Awesomeness Script Attached*
LOOP CELEBRATE (below) is how i start EVERY step it up event. Its 9 minutes long and you don't have to mess with the track.
With elementary schools, you will often have 3 seperate groups 1 hour groups. . The little kids (kinder-1st), the bigger kids 2nd and 3rd, and the biggest kids 4th-5th. The older the students are, the more they will be able to focus and interact with you. The little kids we bring music down to a more reasonable level, speak a little slower and keep with super family friendly music.
INTRODUCTION & WELCOME (FIRST 5-10 MINUTES AS KIDS JOIN THE "CONE ZONE" - RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DJ"
"Welcome to your Day of Awesomeness! Teachers: come on in and find a cone to line your class up behind. Just grab a seat and take off your shoes. Once everyone arrives, we will get started!"
(Once Students Arrive)
"Alright everybody who is ready to party?? (beat) okay I think we can do better than that, make some noise if you’re ready for your Day of Awesomeness!” (Beat) Awesome! Before we can send you out on the courses just a few things to go over.
First, if you haven’t already, take off your shoes. Now I want you to look at your feet. We are going to go down all these slides feet first, not head first. There are volunteers at every station to help you through the line, let’s give them a round of applause for making today possible, You will line up at the flag"
Also: no running! Always line up at the flag! And don’t jump off the obstacles! When I count to 3, you can walk to your first obstacle. 1...2...3... WALK!
(PUMP UP THE MUSIC)
ALWAYS ENCOURAGEMENT & INTERACTION
Walk around on and off the microphone, give out high fives and compliment the little ones if they have some good or bad dance moves. We want it to feel like a big party, and you are in charge of creating that vibe. Always be present, pumped and positive for the students and parents.
SAMPLE PLAYLIST ELEMENTARY (1 Hour Interactive Party)
Now the Hula Hoop Contest can begin, give the starbucks card to the kid who lasts the longest, they will hula hoop to Shake it Off
Give the kids a 10 second countdown to clean up hula hoops off the the side of the DJ to clear the dance floor
This next interactive dance is to involve everyone, teach them how to do it while you're playing it so that everyone is on the same page. Everyone will start doing it with you if you're leading, and this will be a highlight moment for them.
10 Minutes before your set end time WITH EACH GROUP, bring them back to the "Cone Zone" to have them put back on their shoes, and you will announce the remaining "big Prizes", or $100 Tootise Bank Winner if there are any.
Next Group or Pickup and Go Home....
With Middle schools, you will often have 1 or 2 large groups.

Now, lets talk about WRISTBANDS:
Each wristband has a number on it, which means you get some extra prizes today. I want you to put your wristband high in the air, wave it like you just don’t care, and put it in your face. All these wristbands have a NUMBER written on them. Raise your hand if you have a #1? #2? Where are my #3s? How about #4? Can I see my #5s? And how about my #6s?
Now, #1 wristbands stand on up. You guys are gonna show us how it works. When you hear your number get called you’re going to come up to the DJ booth and lineup at this flag (indicate flag). So let’s try this: #1 group come on up. If you have a #1 wristband come on up. (Wait until all the #1s have lined up) Everybody else, I want you to stand up and stay right where you are.
